ABOUT THE LEARNING CENTER

The Learning Center is the disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP) established in conformance with the Texas Education Code (TEC), §37.008, for the Mesquite Independent School District students in elementary through high school grades who are removed from their regular classes for mandatory or discretionary disciplinary reasons and placed in a DAEP.

The Learning Center Information

  • The hours of The Learning Center are 7:55 am-3:05 pm. The doors to the Learning Center open at 7:30 am.

  • Students may arrive to the DAEP with their Chromebook/laptop, jacket, and a lunch.  Other items, such as bags, purses, wallets, caps/hats, radios, jewely, earbuds, snacks, open water bottles, make-up, phones, or other non-school related electronic devices may not be brought to the DAEP and will be confiscated at check-in. All district policies apply regarding confiscation of electronic items/cell phones will be followed. The DAEP staff will assume no responsibility/liability for any lost or stolen items under any circumstances, nor will staff time and energy be spent trying to investigate and/or recover these kinds of disallowed items.

    • Bus transportation is provided if students live more than two miles from the Learning Center campus.
    • Transportation will contact the guardian within days to give bus information.

  • Students are prohibited from attending and/or participating in school-sponsored and/or school-related activities, and prohibited from being on school property or within 300 feet of school property / at a school-related or school-sponsored activity / off campus during the term of placement in DAEP.  This restriction applies until the student fulfills the DAEP assignment at this or another school district.   

    Students are not allowed to enter their home campus Google Classroom, unless the student is in a class that is only taught at the home campus.
