A Message from the Director of the Learning Center

My name is Dr. Valerie L. Nelson, and I have the honor of serving as the Director of the Mesquite ISD Alternative Education Program. I am proud to work alongside an exceptional team of educators and staff who are deeply committed to the growth and success of every student we serve. At the MISD Learning Center, we believe in supporting the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—through a restorative and reflective approach that empowers students to rise, rebuild, and reach their fullest potential.

We embrace a culture of Excellence Always, grounded in high expectations, compassion, and accountability. I believe in leading with both heart and purpose, and I am fully invested in ensuring that every student has access to opportunities that foster resilience, self-awareness, and achievement.
